The DRI (Dietary Reference Intake) for daily protein based on body weight is:

  • 0.36 grams per lb of body weight (US)
  • 0.8 grams per kg of body weight (EU)

The formula used to calculate daily protein consumption based on lean body mass is:

  • 0.5 gram of protein per lb of lean body mass (US)
  • 1 gram of protein per kg of lean body mass (EU)

Protein recommendations are increased by 25% for athletes, people over the age of 70, and pregnant/lactating women.
